28 März 2024As a Data Engineer, you will play a central role in our operations. You will work closely with analytics engineers, analysts, and various other users of our data platform to gain insights into their obstacles and develop scalable, dependable data solutions to address them. In this capacity, you will hold a pivotal position within our data engineering team, taking charge of the design, development, and upkeep of the data pipelines, ETL processes, and data infrastructure that serve as the foundation for our data-driven endeavors. Our Data Platform is built on a best-of-class stack and constantly evolving. We have recently moved our Data Platform from Redshift to Snowflake, although we still use AWS for many parts. We also make heavy use of Python, SQL, DBT, and Airflow for our data pipelines. Our infrastructure is built on Kubernetes, Docker, and GitHub Actions, and uses Terraform.

What you’ll be doing:
- Design, implement, and maintain data infrastructure and systems to support the organization's data initiatives.
- Prototype and develop our machine learning capabilities.
- Enhance and maintain real-time event messaging and tracking capabilities at Jimdo.
- Bring software engineering best practices in data, especially around testing, monitoring, and building a portable, reusable codebase.
- Help establish data contracts to ensure end-to-end data quality.
What you bring to the table:
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
- Strong background in software engineering, with a focus on backend development.
- Proficiency in Python is essential, as it's our primary language. Familiarity with another language, such as Rust, Kotlin, Java, or Go, is desirable.
- Experience with event streaming platforms like Kafka, or similar platforms such as Kinesis or Dataflow.
- Knowledge of event-tracking architecture like Snowplow or Rudderstack is beneficial.
- Familiarity with data platforms like Snowflake (or similar) and data modeling tools like DBT.
- Proficiency in software engineering practices, including Docker, continuous integration and continuous deployment (CI/CD), and testing.
- Proactive in learning new technologies and languages.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work with both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
